I needed a MNENG1.SYS boot file for a DECserver 90TL.
Thanks to all the nice people on this list. Meanwhile a have got 5 copies
of MNENG1.SYS and my DECserver is already operational. (boot image
transferred via MOP using mopd-linux on an old 486, I prepared a
preliminary SuSE 6.4 RPM available at
ftp://ftp-stat.uni-klu.ac.at/pub/RPMS/suse_6.4/i386/mopd-linux-2.5.3-2-1.i386.rpm
if someone is interested in it)
Now I can go for the next step and find out how to configure ports and
services to access serial consoles plugged into this DECserver, if
possible.
One response mentioned that a DECserver does not necessarily need to be
booted via MOP or BOOTP but can also use a flash stored boot image.
I'm not sure if this is true for a DECserver 90TL, especially for
mine. The Net Rider documentation (or DNAS or CNAS) mentiones that the
newer generation firmware MNENG2 needs a 4MB memory upgrade, and my DS
90TL was buried for years in some dark holes in our computer labs, so I
don't think anybody has taken care over the last years to update this box
in any way.
Another response said, that the VMS VAX or Alpha CD distrubtion set
contains MNENG1.SYS on their 4th CD since 1998 in the software subset
"DECserver 90 TL Software 1.1C MJPAA 4 [DS9C011]".
Thanks again for all responses to John Tan, Selden E Ball, Daniel Clar,
Dr. Rudolf Gabler, Derk Tegeler, Mark Bowman and Nagy Ákos
