SUMMARY: KZPCM ITPSA5: HTH intr. error

Hello,

SUMMARY:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This problem may always remain unanswered. Compaq was not able to
isolate the problem. The work-around is to throw hardware at the
problem. We will replace the KZPCM-DA (UWSE SCSI, dual port) with a
KZPBA-CA (UWSE SCSI, single port). The KZPBA-CA does successfully work
with the DS-TZ89N-TA (DLT, external tabletop).

Is there anyone running TU 4.0G with a DS-TZ89N-TA attached to a KZPCM-DA
SCSI controller? If so, please let me know.

My hunch is the TU 4.0G itpsa driver is part of the problem -- a hunch
and $0.75 will get you a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, I don't have
the hardware to prove the hunch since our hardware is dedicated to
production.

QUESTION:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a Alphaserver 4100 5/466 running Tru64 4.0G pk#1 with an
external DS-TZ89N-TA (DLT) attached via a KZPCM-DA (dual UWSE SCSI,
10/100Mbit). While running vdump (to dump our AdvFS filesystems),
we receive this error;

vmunix: ITPSA5: HTH intr. on bus 5, SBCL = 0x20
vmunix: ITPSA5: SCSI Bus was reset

The result is it is difficult to get a complete dump. This problem
began the day we upgraded from DU 4.0D to TU 4.0G. We have tried three
different TZ89's, new DLT IV tapes, and new cleaning tapes with the
same results. We plan to replace the cable and TZ89 enclosure (power
supply) too but I suspect the KZPCM itpsa device driver. The boot
messages concerning this card under 4.0D/4.0G are;

TU 4.0D:
vmunix: pci2001 at pci1 slot 4
vmunix: itpsa0 at pci2001 slot 0
vmunix: ITPSA VERSION V1.1.25 1998/03/26
vmunix: IntraServer ROM Version V2.0 c1998
vmunix: scsi5 at itpsa0 slot 0
vmunix: tz45 at scsi5 target 5 lun 0 (LID=17) (DEC TZ89 (C) DEC 2561) (Wide16)

TU 4.0G:
vmunix: pci2001 at pci1 slot 4
vmunix: itpsa0 at pci2001 slot 0
vmunix: IntraServer ROM Version V2.0 (c)1998
vmunix: scsi5 at itpsa0 slot 0
vmunix: tz45 at scsi5 target 5 lun 0 (LID=17) (DEC TZ89 (C) DEC 2561) (Wide16)

Unfortunately, we have no free PCI slots on this system so we can't try a
different controller -- this system uses one of the two SCSI
connections and the network connection on this card. Has anyone seen
this problem? I am working with Compaq DBD and Field Services. Most likely
we won't be able to get the programmer's attention until Tuesday.

NOTE: I had to install the itpsa driver, ITPSABIN100 subset, from
floppy under DU 4.0D. TU 4.0G replaces the ITPSABIN100 driver via the
OSFHWBIN445 and OSFHWBINOBJECT445 subsets.
