Dear friends,
we are using Compaq XP900 (former PWS 600au) with PowerStorm 300.
The odd thing I am facing is, that we do have an old application, which
we will continue to used for quite some time. This application will only
run correctly (regarding colors) if the default visual is PseudoColor.
Well, seting this in Xservers.conf isn't the issue. But, most of the
other X applications will default to this visual failing to allocate
colors (due to color map full).
But there are some other applications (Netscape, xv) which use the
present TrueColor Visual.
Will the application interfere, if a setup is used:
default visual: TrueColor
application requests: PseudoColor
So, my questions are:
1. Is it possible to force a application to use a dedicated visual, even
if this
visual is not the default visual of the root window, but offered as a
supported
visual ?
To clarify: xdpyinfo of the rootwindow gives (at least on a
PowerStorm 300)
number of visuals: 10
default visual id: 0x24
visual:
visual id: 0x24
class: PseudoColor
visual:
visual id: 0x25
class: PseudoColor
depth: 8 planes
visual:
visual id: 0x21
class: TrueColor
depth: 24 planes
(to be continued)
2. If (1.), is it possible to force an application to use a PseudoColor
visual if
the root window is TrueColor?
Purpose is, to run the Xserver in TrueColor and force the application
to open
a PseudoColor visual.
Thanks to all
