0- Use optical Media (CD-R). With a standalone CD Drive. But it takes about
6 weeks (2.6 TB data= 3600 CD => 900 hours (15 minutes each) ). For the
first time backup process, it is not feasible ...
1- Jukebox. If selected, it will stay as a CD keeper Box until restore
operation is needed. So a bit expensive solution. Yes it gives advantage
when restoration but it will be rearely needed for restarotaion...
2- Use AIT2 tapes and Legato Networker solution... I will study it..
3- Amanda solution (www.amanda.org)
4- dvd-RAm disks (2.6GB capacity) 100 DVD will be enough. May be good, will
think of it. (PS A DLT tape's life is about 30 years not 2 years ..)
5- Storage works DRM(Data Replication Manager). It's size is a bit big !
6- Generic Tape solution. (Thank you for jpeg info , it is already
compressed and think tapes' RAW capacity...) I think this is the best
solution. Because I will need data only for disaster recovery. One SDLT
drive and SDLT tapes will be the best (26 SDLT tapes will be enough... ~40
GB/hr(raw) backup speed. 80 hours for the first data backup, not so bad). By
the way compaq has anounced SDLT tape drives .. look at the www site ...
Original quest.

Greetings to all people,
I am in front of a decision, and I need assistance...
Problem is: We have 2.6 TB of data. Data is scanned documents' jpegs. The
existing data is read only (scanned documents can not be changed) But as new
customers are recorded, new scanned documents (jpegs) will be added. I guess
the growth in the data will be 10 GB each month.
I want to backup all data. After taking the backup of STATIC data, I need
only take the backup of newly added data.
Let me figure out the case ...
.... \
.... \ 2.6 TB STATIC data
.... /
.... /
..... ---> 10 GB NEW DATA each month
Which backup storage solution fits the best in this case (HW/SW) ?
Are there Any similar case there ???
A guy from compaq said that, SDLT tape drive tear its cartridges, is this
correct ? Anyone using SDLT without any problems, expreiences... ?
