Hi,
Thanks go to George Gallen, Calvin Coghlan and especially to Derk Tegeler.
The procedure went thus: install obsolete commands to get bootpd onto the
5.0A system, edit inetd.conf to include the lines
tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tftpd tftpd -d -r \
/tftpboot /tftpboot
bootps dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/bootpd bootpd
and edit the /etc/bootptab tab file to include the necessary load images,
MAC address data etc.
Note that for some reason joind which is supplied as standard with 5.0A in
place of bootpd didn't seem to behave properly. I'll look into this some
more since I expect the errors are down to me rather than the software.
Cheers
Joe
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anyone please point me in the direction of a guide to getting a DS700
booted off a V5.0A system? I've only ever done this off a VMS server before
and it seems a bit easier. I've nicked the WWENG1.SYS image off the VMS box
vi binary ftp.
Output on the DS700 console so far looks like
Local -963- [IP] Illegal BOOTP reply, code: 05
Local -963- [IP] Illegal BOOTP reply, code: 05
Local -953- [MOP] Attempting to locate load host [ISO8802]
Local -953- [MOP] Attempting to locate load host [ETHERNET]
Local -953- [IP] Attempting to locate load host [ETHERNET]
Local -951- Server will retry operation in 300 seconds
I'm guessing I've got the bootptab file wrong or there is a problem with
the load image. There's also a suggestion in the archives that the old
bootpd is better than joind as far as DECservers are concerned.
Any and all assistance gratefully accepted.
TIA
Joe
