Ethernet port Question

Hi all,

I have been developing scripts to configure and routine the network on our
Compaq based platforms.

I am using 4.0F and gated to run OSPF.

What I have found during my testing is that if I pull a cable from the back of
the machine the ethernet port does not automatically down itself. I can still
ping the port as if it is working correctly. The result is that OSPF does not
re-route around the problem which kind of defeats the object of what I am doing.

If I manually down the port ( ifconfig tu1 down ) OSPF then re-routes, however I
need this to happen automatically.

Is this the default behaviour of ethernet ports on Compaq platforms? Can it be
changed to go down upon failure of the cable/port?

The machine is a Compaq 500au..

Anyhelp greatly appreciated

Scott
