Special thanks to Steve Daniel of Network Appliance and Mike Inglesias.
Background: Using a Compaq Alphaserver ES40 w/gigabit Ethernet running Tru64
v5.1 I was experiencing PAINFULLY slow file creation speeds with NetApp
Filers (sorry I don't know the model of filer as they are not mine to
access).
Solution: After tweaking the gigE connection (see SUMMARY: Gigabit Ethernet
Slooooownes) I finally had the network to a point where I felt it was
performing well. Still I had ridiculously slow response from the NetApp. On
advice from Steve Daniel and Mike Inglesias I re-mounted using nfsv2 (mount
-o nfsv2 x.x.x.x:/export /mount_point) using UDP by default. This totally
fixed the problem and speeds are now consistent to NetApp expectations!
Finally, I can finish this colocation project.
