AdvFS, ACE 8.5S, and Tru64 UNIX 5.1

Hi Managers,

I have a Tru64 UNIX V5.1 system running several AdvFS file systems hosted under
a HSG80 running 8.5S.

We wanted to use the snap-shotting capability of 8.5S to create a storage unit
under the HSG that we could present to Tru64 UNIX for backup, test etc. The idea
was to pause an Oracle Database momentarily, snapshot the unit on the HSG,
restart Oracle and then use the snapshot on the same system or different systems
depending.

The snapshot part works fine, and we can mount the created unit on an unrelated
AlphaServer, but the units refuses to mount on the same Alpha as the original
unit due to it having the same AdvFS domain id (the meta data is duplicated).
verify even core dumps trying to analyze the unit!

Does anyone know of a work-around to either get Tru64 UNIX to ignore the
duplicate domain-id error or to force AdvFS to allocate a different id?

Regards,

Stuart
