Solved: Booting of AlphaStation 500/333 (fwd)

The problem is solved by using the second method as described below
by James Sainsbury. It worked fine.

Try booting your generic kernel first.

>>> boot dka0 -fl s -fi genvmunix
(assuming dka0 is your boot disk otherwise dka100 dka200 etc )
and copy the kernel from /sys/KERNEL/vmunix (as below.)

else from your install CD get to your shell
cd /dev
./MAKEDEV rz0
# if rz0 is your boot disk. Use rz1 etc if different
fsck -p /dev/rz0a
mount /dev/rz0a /mnt
cd /mnt/sys/KERNEL
cp vmunix /
cd /
umount /mnt
# where KERNEL is the name of your kernel usually the hostname.
reboot
