Several suggestions came in:

At the SRM console: set console serial - 300LX SRM does not support the
"console" variable

Flip the "S3" switch on the back panel - 300LX does not have this switch

Set the motherboard jumpers located by the SCSI connector - Two jumper
sets exist there: W2 w/4 pins & W3 w/3 pins. I have not located the docs
on this yet.

This worked:

Unplug the monitor & keybd/mouse & connect a terminal to the 25 pin
serial port - Once I wired it up right, SRM console & boot up info
displayed on the terminal ( minicom on a Linux x86 actually .) After a
few moments to detect no kybd/mouse, was able to login at the terminal.

Thanks.
