Hi,
I added a ST318417W (18G) to an AlphaStation 600.
>>> sh dev in console mode reports the new disk as dka300 correctly.
The system contains 5 more drives dsk0 to dsk4 and some tapes floppy and
cdrom.
At boot the dsfmgr runs and should take care of the new addition but
reports the following problems
dsfmgr: NOTE: updating kernel basenames and old devnames for system at /
scp kevm tty00 tty01 lp0 dsk0 dsk1 dsk2 dsk4
tape0 tape1 tape2 floppy00 ...
dsfmgr: slot ("/dev/disk/dskc) = kernel database - duplicate device ids
dsfmgr: NOTE: creating device special files for system at /
+dsk5c/sbin/dn_setup: 30 Memory fault -core
dumped
and stops in single user mode asking for a fix.
I booted to level 3 without a fix.
I looked at /dev/disk. There is a dsk5a dsk5b and a link dsk5c ->
dsk5c.
This link was made at system installation time and seems to prevent
dsfmgr from doing its job.
Does it serve any purpose?
My inclination was to delete that link and try again.
That fixed the boot problem and all seems ok.
Anyone seem such a problem?
Thanks
Gerfried
