I got much support for "Amanda", so I guess I will
continue in that avenue. The error below (well,
information) is because I didn't look into the
documentation well enough as I should. Fix for that:
I'm currently using Amanda to back up 27 of my systems
and find it very versatile. There's heaps of info and
help pages/ FAQ's you can get to via the
www.amanda.org site.
There is also a user mailing list similar to this one,
specifically for amanda, that you can subscribe to
(details at above address).
By the look of your error, you have not included the
name of the account that will be running the backups
in your configuration line e.g. ./configure
--with-user=root --with-group=system
--with-config=normal For choice of preferences
./configure --help The installation notes include this
and other info.
