For development purposes, we're thinking of building a system which can be
booted with any of several versions of Tru64 Unix. That is, the machine
would run 4.0x, 5.0A, or 5.1 depending on what we were working on. Most
or all of the common data would reside on a separate file server, but the
OS, databases, and various applications would reside on local disks. Is
there any problem with mixing partitions formatted by different releases of
Tru64 on one physical disk? Say, for example, one disk might have a "g"
partition containing a 4.0 file system, while the "h" partition contained a
5.1 file system. While it would be convenient to be able to access both at
the same time, we're also willing to live with just being able to access
and use the partitions corresponding to the currently booted OS. Any
problems with this scenario?
