Performance of NFS with SUN's

People,

We are observing some interesting performance characteristics with a DS-20
and a SUN E-450.

The E-450 is acting as the NFS Server, the DS-20 as a client.

Both servers have a Gig interface, on the same LAN, and can see each other.
These servers are connected to a COMPAQ (Cabletron / Enterasys) SSR/8.

No errors on console, or in logs.

NFS performance is BAD. We are averaging about 500MB/5 minutes or about
1.7MB/s.

The SUN is idle (Dual processor, max CPU %20), the DS-20 has 40% CPU
available, and not much network traffic.

We are needing to move about 70GB of data for batch processing. It is
looking like a tape would be more effective, but a management nightmare!

Thoughts or suggestions are most welcome. I will summarize.

Kind Regards,

Guy
