Hi Managers,

I tried sending this to the samba mailing list, but have not got a response yet, so I thought I would post it here:

I need to be able to backup a unix box(Tru64 5.1) to a NT box via samba. My question is, how do I preserve the ownerships/permissions of the files when I back them up? I read about the nt acl support.. Is that what I need? Has anyone had real good success doing this? Also, has anyone used this method to make a backup of the entire system, ie, device files and symlinks included?( I have a seperate backup for disaster recovery, so I will still be able to restore from local tape). I came across a book which looks like it talks about this (" Samba: integrating unix and windows" by John Blair ), but before I run out and buy this, I was hoping someone could give me some guidance as to whether or not this is even a feasible solution.

TIA
Tyler
