We use PolyCenter Console Manager on a small Alpha workstation to access
the consoles of several other systems. This workstation is plugged into a
faulty UPS that has caused it to shutdown a few times recently.
It seems as if each time the system shuts down, the console manager
software stops working. When trying to connect to the console on a system
with the "console connect" command, a session opens to the intended
system, but no connection can be made. All that we get is a message that
says the system is unavailable or disabled.
The previous two times when our UPS quit on us, I was able to restart the
consoled via the "/sbin/console_start clean" command and it returned to
normal working order. This time, that is not happening. I have tried
shutting down consoled several times, rebooting the system, etc. Nothing
works. I also verified that the system is actually connected to the
terminal servers we use with it, but that's not a problem either.
None of the log files shows any problems. When I try the "console -G3"
GUI, and run through the various features that look like they might be
helpful, nothing wrong shows up until I try to make a console connection
when I get that error message about the system not being available.
If anyone has any suggestions on how I can correct this situation, please
let me know. Thanks.
