I have gotten things to run cleanly now it seems. We had to move things
around. The connection to the HP Procurve 1600 M seems to have been the
problem with the DS20E and DE504-BA and Tru64 5.1. After patching the
connection through to our Cisco Cat 5500, I can now ftp the original file
with no (fewer anyway) problems. I will still get an occasional stall
during the transfer, but there are now no errors generated on the ethernet
interface during the transfer. I'll have to try the connect to the HP
switch again at some point, but will do that after the next firmware
upgrade to the switch.
Thanks to all those with suggestions for checking and setting the speed and
duplex on the switch and the system.
