How to maintain /var/adm/wtmp

Hello:

The /var/adm/wtmp file on a Compaq UNIX system is huge, and it is growing
rapidly. What is the proper method to maintain this log file? In fact, this
system is not a busy system at all, how come the wtmp keeps growing, about
500 byte per minute?
O/S: Compaq UNIX V4.0D.
Memory: 512MB
