Hello everybody,
Original question below, it was related to the spike program that replaces
om and cord on 5.1.
Thanks go to Myself (:)) and Joe Mario for his answer. He said that this
problem is fixed in patch kit 3. I've heard a lot about patch kit 3 but
I'm yet to see it. However, I'd already gone to a website that he later
pointed out:
http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/spike/ which has a bigger and
better new version of spike. Downloading that allowed me to spike the
executable. So a note for Billy Barnett who was the only other respondent,
this is how you fix the problem. It's always reassuring when somebody else
has had the same problem.
No thanks to Compaq and Oracle support who had both never heard of the
program even though I pointed them to revelant parts of their own
documentation. Compaq support even told me it wasn't a Compaq program.
Both pointed the finger at each other further proving the strong
partnership ties that Oracle and Compaq both claim exist. Note to these
two companies, now IBM has decided to buy Informix such attitudes may not
be tolerated by customers for too long. Sorry for my little rant just a
very frustrating thing to deal with. On a lighter note, that website also
includes a FAQ relating to "spike" and how it got it's name. The nice part
is that it has a link to a picture of the dog from which spike got it's
name. It's even wearing a cute red scarf :).

Original quesiton:
--------------------------------------------------
Peoples,
We have encountered a problem with the program "spike". We are using an
8400 running v5.1 pk#2. We have gathered documents on performance tuning
oracle and one of the little tidbits relates to spiking the oracle
executable.
When we try to do this we get the error:
# spike oracle -o oracle.spike -symbols_live
? FATAL ERROR
? Assertion failed.
? ../../../../../../src/usr/ccs/bin/spike/rel.cxx, line 2388
NO STACKTRACE no executable specified
Floating exception(coredump)
#
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Has anyone else even used this
program? We tried it against top and monitor and it has worked on them. We
have calls logged with both Oracle and Compaq just keen to see if anyone
else can help out.
