I was asking for a /proc - like "dev" entries on Tru64 (near future)
I received 1 response from Dr. Thomas Blinn that clearly pointed to me the
following:
(I reproduce Dr. Thomas Blinn statements with his approval)
1. Tru64 is -less- techology driven and +much more+ marketing (money)
driven.
In clear words: " ... it's not going to happen based on a popularity
contest, you need to make a business case
for it, based on how many more Tru64 UNIX systems Compaq would sell if we
did the engineering work, and trust me, you won't convince anyone that
the number is big enough to justify the cost and risk....
... What Compaq senior management wants is a return
on the Alpha investment that is low risk and high profit margin, and that
means you don't add new features to the product that aren't demanded by
your large "enterprise" customers or your important application providers
(companies such as Oracle, to name one)."
2. So, without substantial change in this policy or unless request coming
from the "large" customers, it is very unlikely to see that feature in Tru64
even if someone did the coding work for that matter.
3. People shall use Linux if this feature is mandatory or if what you want
is innovation.
