Everything used to work fine.... I didn't need to set up anything to send
email (mailx) from my Tru64 boxes to anywhere. About a year ago, during a
virus fire fight, the Exchange admins fixed Exchange so that I then had to
config the Tru64 boxes as email Clients pointing to Exchange
(email.glgt.com) as the email server. No big deal...
Apparently, according to the developers, external mail quit working about a
month or so ago, they have been investigating it as an application problem
since and just recently made me aware of the problem. There has been not
problems with sending mail on the Intranet. The Exchange/NT Admins have no
idea what could have changed in that time frame, I have made no changes to
the Tru64 boxes. I also understand that there has been some Network
Cleaning going on, but there has not been any volunteers saying that they
may have impacted this.
The current state is that I have two 5.1 boxes that can send okay and two
4.0e boxes that can only send mail to the Internet with the "-r
<any_text>_at_glgt.com" parameter, and then the received mail has no subject,
although -s is set. And, of course, I cannot receive any mail from the
Internet on any of these boxes (this is of minimal concern, but it should
work).
What is the correct way to configure Tru64 and Exchange to work happily
together?
Should I set up the Tru64 boxes as servers and route mail directly out to
our ISP (not sure if this is even possible)?
What's the difference between the 4.0e and 5.1 boxes?
Could there be a DNS issue here?
The 4.0e boxes are on the 10.1.3 subnet and the 5.1 boxes are on the 10.1.1
subnet, email is on 10.1.3, is this an issue?
Is there a product that will allow a Tru64 box to perform ALL of the
functions of Exchange, without severely impacting the users?
