Yesterday I asked about monitoring system performance. Thanks to all who responded.
There are various unix commands which can be used, namely,
vmstat
iostat
netstat
swapon
uptime
sys_check
Then there are the packages available,
BMC Patrol
Monitor
Collect
http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/collect
Pawz
http://www.compaq.com/services/management/ms_capacity.html
BigBrother
http://bb4.com with the larrd extension
http://www.deadcat.net
Of the packages suggested I'm going to have a go with collect first as that one seems to be the most popular.

We have various Alpha servers ranging from a Digital 1200 through a Compaq DS20, an ES40 and a GS60. All use Tru64 4.0F. We have a pot of money available in next years budget to upgrade some or all of the servers, but I don't know how to figure out which machines need which upgrades. I know that certain applications are disk dependant, and others are memory dependant, but I need to quantify figures. What I need is a way to measure performance of the major potential bottlenecks, namely CPU, Memory, Disk I/O and network thru-put. If anyone has some useful commands / scripts that I can use to monitor each I'd be most grateful.
