Responses - it was a case of can't see the forest for the trees

Hi

I've never done a rolling upgrade but the TruCluster server kit
is on the Associated Products 2 CD. If that's what it is looking for
you need to mount the assoc products 2 CD

unmount the OS CD and mount the Assoc Prod CD - vol 2
TruCluster Server kit should be:

/mnt/TruCluster/kit

Lynn,
I have the UNIX v5.1 kit here and checked it. Load the
Associated Products Volume 2 CD and mount it as follows (assuming you
have a mount point /mnt):

        mount -r -t cdfs -o rrip /dev/disk/cdrom0c /mnt
                                                ^
                                        assuming your cd is 0

        ls -l /mnt/TruCluster/kit

You will see there the instctrl directory and related files. I
hope this is what you are asking. Good luck!

----------------

The TruCluster Server kit for V5.1 is located on the V5.1 AP CD volume 2.
It's not on the base OS kit. If you mount AP CD 2 on say /mnt then if
you look in /mnt you should see a directory called something like
TruCluster and in that directory there should be a kit directory, so
your path would be something like

        /mnt/TruCluster/kit

After you complete the preinstall, you need to unmount the APCD2 CDROM
and mount the base OS CDROM to do the installupdate step.

[EDITORIAL NOTE: this is more explanitory that the manual was. Thanks.]

----------------

The procedure I've used several times with 100% success is:

1) clu_upgrade -v check <lead system id>
2) clu_upgrade setup <lead system id>
3) reboot all members except lead system
4) clu_upgrade preinstall
5) take lead member to single user mode and do dupatch
6) bring lead member up to full interactive mode
7) on each remaining member take it to single user mode and do dupatch then
bring back up to full interactive mode
8) on lead member clu_upgrade switch
9) reboot all members one at a time
10) clu_upgrade clean

You're done.

Hope this helps.

Larry

Moral of this story: Never try to do 2 other things at the same time you
are running a rolling upgrade. Thank you all for your kindly advice.
