optimize data transfer

I have a Microway true64, OSF1 ver5 system which I use to transfer large
graphic files to a Sun Netra 1405. The transfer time is significantly
slow compared to another alpha system using same files. I'd like to
optimize the slow alpha system for a better transfer rate. Can someone
give procedures for this?
