Hello Tru64 Managers,
Well, I have not figured out why I cannot install 5.1 on my AS1000A yet. I
figured that I should post a summary as I received many tips from this
list.
Here are the responses I received;
1) Many suggested I update to the current firmware. My mistake in leaving
this out of the initial posting. I had upgraded using the 5.7 firmware CD
supplied with 5.1 before I started to install 5.1
2) A few suggested I try and run ECU (EISA Configuration Utility) to make
sure everything was correct. I did, it looks OK to me (I have no EISA
devices plugged in), but still no luck.
3) One person noted that the serial 1 and serial 2 ports might be
mislabeled. I tried, but not on my system.
A tried a few other things myself;
1) I loaded the supplied firmware for 4.0F, 5.0A, and 5.1 and ALL do the
same thing.
2) I tried the second AS1000 (there were 2 collecting dust, this one not the
"A" model) and it also does the same thing. It must be something in common
(me? ;-)
The "same thing" is;
Boot install CD, and if using console = graphics, install panic dumps with
a "kernel memory fault". This is the same if I try to use the built in
graphics adapter in the AS1000 (the AS1000A apparently does not have a built
in graphics adapter) or the external PCI graphics adapters (I tried 2
different adapter types).
When I try to remove the graphics cards and set console = serial (run init)
the install CD boots and then panic's because I do not have a console
configured (funny, I thought the serial console should be good enough).
If I figure it out some day, I will post a update. Other than that, my 2
AS1000's are boat anchors :-(
