Summary: Re full or half duplex

Thanks to Joe Fletcher and John Farmer.

There is no way to actually query a DE-600 card under 4.0x to discover
if it is half duplex or full. However, it
can be forced with

lan_config -i ee0 -s 100 -x 1
(my interface is ee0.)

Two very important caveats, however.

One--the usage summary that the command puts out is not correct.
It suggests that speeds (10,20,100,200) with the 20, 200 corresponding
to full duplex are supported. 200 is not supported.

Two--if you tried -s 200 anyway, it will instead set it to 10 Mb/s full
duplex. In my case this hung the switch port, which in turn disabled
all networking to the machine, forcing a reboot.
