Old Alpha Workstations for software development

We have a GS140 EV6/525MHz system running True64 UNIX v5.1. We often
have a need to compile software offsite which will ultimately run on
this system. Hence we are planning to buy a cheap loaner system (a
personal workstation) and license for UNIX and f77,f90 and cc compilers
for it. We could then easily ship it to other locations for software
development. The only requirement for this system would be that software
compiled on it should run on our GS140. I am not that familiar with
alpha workstations, especially older systems. Will something like an
AlphaStation 600 5/266 do the job? What other workstations do you
recommend?

thanks
