Problem hooking external SCSI device to ES-40

I have a new ES-40 with the 6 disk card cage, a 3X-KZPCA-AA controller, and a
Compaq 36 GB SCSI disk. I am trying to add a 3rd party RAID box the the
external connector on the SCSI card. The device is a SCSI-3 device, but when I
connect it up, I get SCSI errors off of both the RAID box and the internal SCSI
disk. I have tried the internal termination in the RAID controller, a SE SCSI
terminator, a LVD terminator, and no terminator, but then all give problems.
Any ideas?
