Oracle on a semiclusterTrucluster 5.0a

Dear Managers

I am facing a weird situation (just new in this company). We have a trucluster 5.0a running with 3 (the same) oracle instances running on BOTH systems. Obviously this cluster is not set up with caa cluster software, but oracle is started locally from the /sbin/init.d directory on both systems. Disks are shared according version 5 clustering.
Our technical department (with little knowledge on the subject) stopped Oracle on 1 node to perform a cold backup but didn't stop oracle on the other node. My questions are:

1) Is this backup useful for a restore? I dont think so
2) What is the behaviour of running the same oracle instance on two systems?

Kind Regards
Henk Baars
