Thanks to Blair Phillips and Werner Rost for their assistance.
Blair gave me the keyword I was missing by mentioning that mirror/raid
devices would be running in a "REDUCED" state.
Looking through the different mirror/raid sets on the HSZ70 I did indeed see
two mirrors in REDUCED state. I have two replacement disks on the way from
Compaq and now just need to dig out the HSZ70 CLI manual to work out how to
fix my mirrors once I have the new disks.
Blairs response was fairly informative (at least to HSZ newbie like myself)
and had a very valid point about keeping track of which disks belong to
which mirror/raid sets and being able to trace that back to what unix device
that is. In my case I've worked out that m3 = d3 = dsk16c = /u09. The only
way I've found of telling how to get from the d3 device to dsk16c is by
shutting down to SRM and doing a 'show-devs' type command, luckily we had
this stuff documented and a shutdown wasn't needed.
Werner pointed out that you can use 'locate' at the HSZ70 console to locate
a mirror. I'd used this to locate disks but didn't know it worked with
mirrors also.
And my original post:
Greetings,
I have here in front of me an AlphaServer 4100 with many disks connected via
dual-redundant HSZ70 configuration in a couple of StorageWorks shelves.
Loads of SCSI errors were logged overnight and upon investigation two disks
(DISK10100 and DISK60300 to the HSZ) seem to have died or at least gone out
of commission (present in 'FAILEDSET' and orange attention light flashing on
disks).
On doing a 'show failedsets' it shows the two disks in the failedset. I
have tried doing all the other permutations of 'show ...' I can think of to
try and work out which mirror/stripe the disks came from without any sucess.
Basically I want to know how to tell which mirror or stripe the disks came
from so I can assess to what lengths I should go to ensure my data is safe
and how urgently I need them back (i.e. I'd be more concerned if it's a
mirror our database resides on than if it was a stripeset we use as a
repository for large raw data files to load into the database).
How can I find this out from the HSZ70 console?
Any assistance appreciated greatly.
NB. I have already logged a call with Compaq support, just want to know for
myself what broke etc.
