Greetings managers,
Quick question; is there a quick, painless way to carve out a second
*swap* partion from an existing AdvFS partition, to increase the swap
space on one of our DS10's (just ran under 10% swap free and eventually
crashed, at the hands of a large user job, it would appear, twice in under
30 minutes)? DU4.0F doesn't support swapping to regular files. This box,
config'd by the previous admin, has 640M real memory:
May 25 17:45:43 wessex vmunix: Digital UNIX V4.0F (Rev. 1229); Mon Nov 1
12:03:46 NST 1999
May 25 17:45:43 wessex vmunix: physical memory = 640.00 megabytes.
May 25 17:45:43 wessex vmunix: available memory = 620.79 megabytes.
May 25 17:45:43 wessex vmunix: using 2448 buffers containing 19.12
megabytes of memory

May 25 17:45:43 wessex vmunix: PALcode: Digital UNIX version 1.51-51

>>>>>>> but apparently only 384M swap (!): <<<<<<<<
<33 wessex /var/adm> swapon -s
Swap partition /dev/rz16b:
    Allocated space: 49152 pages (384MB)
    In-use space: 1 pages ( 0%)
    Free space: 49151 pages ( 99%)
Total swap allocation:
    Allocated space: 49152 pages (384MB)
    In-use space: 1 pages ( 0%)
    Available space: 49151 pages ( 99%)
There's a nice, fat AdvFS partition that's only 1% used which looks very
attractive, and I'd like to avoid downtime if possible:
<36 wessex /var/adm> df -k | less
