who echo'd my own feeling that, even under AdvFS, adding more swap is a)
trivial, if you happen to have a spare partition kicking around that you
can newfs as swap and simply put into /etc/fstab (I've done this several
times in the past on other boxes), and b) as in the UFS world, rearranging
an existing disk for an extra partition one can dedicate as more swap
requires full backup, disk carving/domain re-def'n/etc, and subsequent
restoration. Not at all painless (not terribly difficult, either; just
time consuming and with some level of associated risk).

Thomas Blinn suggested (sensibly) that the ounce of prevention be
discovered first (the source of the swap-consuming jobs) before turning to
the pound-of-cure swap space increase. Several suggested adopting
deferred-mode swapping (pages allocated when jobs request, not all at once
at the start of a job - which is the default; easily done by removing the
link /sbin/swapdefault if it exists on your system). I need to determine
the nature of the rogue job(s) first, of course.

Thanks to all

Cheers
Chris
