new hardware on old Alphas ?

I've just received the new offer for the maintenance contract for my 2 Alpha
255/233 and one Alpha 200 4/100 (which are happily running), and found the
unpleasant surprise that the prices charged by Compaq have gone up 20% with
respect to last year, and I'm a bit reluctant to pay what they are asking.

I will look for alternate solutions (third party mantainers, descoping the h/w
support level from B to C), but a viable one could be to leave on contract
only the CPU, and drop disks (RZ28 in BA362 or BA353), DAT (TLZ09) and perhaps
monitors (VRT17).

Of course this is only viable if I am sure that, in case of failure, I could
plug more modern hardware on my rather old (but perfectly working) Alphas.

Anybody can tell if more modern larger disks, DAT and monitors (from either
Compaq or others) can be connected without problems to Alpha 255 or Alpha 200
?

Ideas on prices in the European (and specially Italian) market would also be
appreciated.

Thanks to everybody
