Many wrote me about having experienced symptoms such as we describe and the
most common (by a landslide) recommendation was to set both sides explicited
to 100FD and be happy. I have tried this and mine is performing up to
expectations. Apparently the tulip cards are not reliably sensed by the
Cisco Cat' 5000 OS (Cisco seems to be more concerned with Windows XP than
with this so I do not expect a fix from either Compaq or Cisco).
