vdump - Mammoth2 Tape drive

Maybe someone over there can help me:

I installed a Mammoth2 tape drive on a DEC
Alpha 600 running Tru64 5.0. I already have
an old Mammoth drive installed that works well.
After installation and subsequent reboot all
devices were there (in /dev/tape ... tape1,
taep1c, and tape1_d[0-7]). I am able to "mt"
and "tar" into this new Mammoth2 drive, but
when I try "vdump" into it I get a "Segmentation
Fault". After trying different switched in vdump
I started getting "Memory Fault" error messages.
Any clues? Do I need a newer version of vdump
(I'm using 5.0)?

Thanks,
