SUMMARY: Odd strings from 'man' output

Tru64 Managers:

Thanks for all of the quick responses! I'll summarize --

The 'man' utility puts out unusual prompts at the end of each page, such as
"manarCfaa (15%) "

This is NORMAL behavior when the man pages are compressed. The 'man'
command formats the compressed man page, using a temporary file name such as
'manarCfaa'. Then the pager program (usually 'more') displays the
temporary file and displays the temporary file name at the bottom of each
screen.

The resolution is:

a) Do nothing if the temporary filename doesn't bother you.

b) Run 'catman' to uncompress the man pages. Then the man|more command will
display the man section number at the bottom of each page [ example: man.1
(1%) ]

I feel better that others also have seen this "problem" and were stumped...

Thank you again.

Tru64 Managers:

Here's an odd problem on our Tru64 ES40 system.

Whenever we run the 'man' command, instead of the 'more' prompt at the
bottom of each screen, we get a random string of characters.

One one page, we might get this prompt:
manarCfaa (15%)

While still running 'man' on another page of text we get this prompt:
manarCgaa (11%)

Problems with the TERM setttings or something come to mind; are these
character-cell control sequences that are being sent out?

We have the problem both on the graphic head of the ES40, and remote
terminal sessions into the box.
