file system filling up.

I am trying to avoid calling and waking up the sysadmin. I have a file
system that is filling up. The FS is mounted on /dba/appxxx. I found a
very large tar file in /dba/appxxx/11.0.3. I move the tar file to /tmp
(lots of room there). The file I move was 73meg, the file system is
allocated somewhere around 100 meg. by moving this file I thought the
system would recognize that there was more room available. But doing a df
show the fs still at 100% and filling up fast.

How do I get the system to recognize that it has the room it needs.

what am I missing?
