Tru64 Managers:
I have two ES40 systems in a cluster. Each system has a CD-ROM device.
If there is NO media in the CD-ROM drive, the system generates continuous
errors like the one below. (Note: The devices are NOT mounted when these
errors occur.)
====================== Binary Error Log event =======================
EVM event name: sys.unix.binlog.hw.scsi
Binary error log events are posted through the binlogd daemon, and
stored in the binary error log file, /var/adm/binary.errlog. This
event is used to report all SCSI device errors, including disk,
tape, HSZ raid events, and adapter errors.

If I put CD-ROM media (ANY disc) into the device, the errors STOP.
Have you seen this same issue? Any suggestions on how to resolve it?
So far I have Compaq support stumped.
I don't believe it is a hardware issue with the CD-ROM because:
a. The CD-ROM was replaced on one system, but no change in the errors.
b. The problem occurs on both ES40 systems.
The errors seem to be relatively harmless, however, I must think that this
continuous polling is having an effect on the system performance. The
CD-ROMs are functional (e.g. we can mount and read discs with no problems).
Thank you,
