Positioning on a tape with the "mt" command

I have some problem in using the mt command in the fileset's backup
procedure on my ES40.
All the vdump sessions ends correctly, but when i use mt to move on the tape
at a specified files set with the command:
        mt -f /dev/tape/tape0 fsf x ( x integer ) ( or bsf to move
backward )
often i can't reach the exact fileset i'm looking for.
I understood that the x value is the position's index of the fileset on the
tape, then to find the 4th fileset from the init of the tape i use:
    mt -f /dev/tape/tape0 fsf 4
but often i have problems.
My questions:
What's the correct syntax and usage of the "mt fsf bsf" command?
How can i correctly positioning on a specified fileset on the tape?
How can i position the tape just after the last fileset to vdump another
fileset adding it to the tape?

Thanks,
Emilio.
