Many thanx for the suggestions. The unanimous
suggastion was to use .exrc with "set ic". Actually I
wanted "ic" to be set/unset "ic" just on the fly. No
probs, I can live with it!

My question was:

$ echo "Hello World, Have a Nice Day!" > foo

Then edit the file "foo" using vi and search for
"nice", vi says "Pattern not found". Then do ":set ic"
and repeat the last search using "/". vi still says
"Pattern not found"! It expects me to do a fresh
search. Is there any option using which the
command ":set ic" takes effective immediatly?

thx again

-Shiv
