Synopsis: after modifying the kernel stanza max-proc-per-user to a value of
512, a value of 267 was reported by sysconfig -q despite being set to 512 in
/etc/sysconfigtab.
Thanks to Corrine Haesaerts for suggesting that I upped maxusers to a higher
value; this had the desired effect and I'm now the proud owner of a box
which supports 512 processes per user.
Thanks also to Chris Haynes for pointing out the relationship between
task-max and thread-max and how max-*-per-user are calculated according to
these settings.
Final thanks to Jesper Nemholt for providing a complete stanza file which
allows 4096 processes per user.
As always, I'm in awe of the speed of response to queries posted to this
list; and that's to say nothing of the amount of experience the list
subscribers have. Thanks again everyone and have a great weekend.
