Probably a weird coincidence. Power cycle the system. If you STILL can't
get the CDROM drive to work, it's probably dead. It's REMOTELY possible
that the RedHat install software did something to the CDROM drive's own
firmware, but VERY unlikely. However, the SRM console wants to access
the CDROM drive in 512 byte mode, and if it's a SCSI CDROM drive, it's
supposed to be able to do that mode, and maybe it's just not accepting
the appropriate commands because it's in some wedged state; a full power
cycle will often fix stuck firmware.

It means one of 2 things. either:
1.) You've burned a bad cd (if you made it yourself)
or
2.) Your CD-ROM has flaked out on you. Cleaning may help this, but will
just prolong your misery. CD drives are pretty cheap even when they're
SCSI, so its no biggie.
It is however a big coincidence that the drive died during a linux
installation.
