Replacing Sendmail 5.65

This is the obvious follow up to my previous question. I guess that I
should
replace this with the latest which I gather is 8.11.

Should I consider other choices to sendmail? Are ther precompiled versions?

what is the least painful upgrade path?

I ask the previous question having strugled through early version sof
