Can't log in to server

Ok...a bit of a problem here. We just got a brand new ES40 the other day, and I'm busily trying to configure the thing. Last night I attempted to set up netRAIN on the network cards, and then rebooted to make sure the settings worked. Well, it rebooted with no errors, and I got to the logon screen. I log in as root, and hit enter--and it just sits there at the "Starting common desktop" screen indefinitely. I tried rebooting a few more times but the same thing each time. This morning I logged in using the "failsafe" session option, and I got in and undid the netRAIN settings I did last night, and rebooted, but it still just sits there at that blue screen after login. So now I have no idea what's wrong with it, because everything is just as it was last time it worked. Anyone have any suggestions?
