Automount/AutoFS and TruCluster V5.1

Hello Again

I am hoping that someone can clear up my confusion over using automount or
autofs in TruCluster V5.1
i.e. a TruCluster as an NFS client.

In the TCR V5.1 release notes it states:

"An NFS filesystem does not automatically failover to another cluster
member. Rather you must manually remount it - on the same mount point or
another - from another cluster member to make it available again.......
(If you are using AutoFS or automount the remount will happen
automatically.)"

I understand the reasons behind this, what I am a bit unclear about is the
AutoFS or automount support in a cluster. In the system admin guide there is
a procedure documented for setting up AutoFS as a CAA service, but not for
automount.

Can I assume that automount is fully cluster aware ?

I also don't understand how AutoFS can be a CAA service, if the service is
running on node A and I am issuing a command that requires the mount on node
B, how does AutoFS intercept the mount request ? Am I missing something
really obvious ?

If anyone has any experiences of either AutoFS or automount in a TruCluster
environment I would love to hear them. (good or bad !!).

Many Thanks

Kevin Jones
