Some suggested browsing the used markets for products (Dec, Livingston and Cisco mentioned):
Gemini Digital www.geminidigital.com
Newman Group www.newman.com
ebay www.ebay.com
One person Suggested build-you-own with a Unix kernel and a serial mux card.
(and there were several sales people contacted me based on the mail - tich, tich, tich)
It doesn't appear that any fit ALL my wishes, some do more some less.
I did some quick calculations of some of the listed new products based on web page price
and I saw a range of $81/port to $259/port.
I think I will browse the used market for some DEC/DNPG DS90Ms because I very familiar with
them, I have a few already, their size and price fit my needs ($152.00/port based on new pricing).
thanks to all

> Is standalone or near standalone (i.e. no load file required, or one time flash load)
> Is easy to configure for this reverse telnet operation
> Rack mountable so that I can put it in a 19" cabinet with my systems
> Provides about 8 or more ports per unit
> Has local port configuration (name to port configuration)
> Uses standard off-the-shelf cabling between it's ports and the systems (MMJs and DB25Ps)
> Can, on remote command, generate 'Break characters' on the target port
> Uses NIS to authenticate access
> Has locally programmable password for 'system' level access
