Fibre Channel maximum length

                Hi all!

A simple and quick question: what is the maximum theoretical and
practical length of a Fibre Channel SAN solution? As I can read on
Compaq's website on the page describing RA8000, the longest cable
I can order is "FC Short Wave 50-Meter Cable, order no. 234457-B25".
Our customer would like to put the disks away from the server much
farther than this. (Don't ask me why, that's another story.)
According
to this, wouldn't it be possible?
Any comments are greatly appreciated. The problem seems to be
urgent by now... :-( I will try to summarize. TIA,

                                                        Nagyak
