Hello Admins,

I read the SUMMARY of Werner Rosts solution to the lpr log problem.

Now I do have a question and may be some one can give me some insight into it -
may be COMPAQ engineers.

AFAIK, there is another parameter which controls the debugging output of the lpr
daemon.
The lpr daemon understands the printcap entry db - debugging. If this parameter
is set to zero, eg.

:db#0:

then the lpr daemon will not produce any logging.

The solution Werner is using now instructs syslog to throw away logging from lpr
daemon. The logging information is produced anyway but not recorded.

I use V4.0fpk4.

A printcap entry on my AS1200 looks like this:

ThePrinter:\
        :if=AnIF:\
        :of=AnOF:\
        :af=AnAcct:\
        :sd=ASpoolDir:\
        :lp=:\
        :rm=SomeOtherHostWithTheRealPrinter:\
        :mx#0:\
        :rp=raw:\
        :db#1:\
# ^
# |
# +-- this marks the debugging parameter and may be set to 0 or greater
# unfortunately, this is not documented anywhere, but if one searches
the strings
# of the lpd executable, he will find db supported
#
        :pl#70:\
        :pw#80:\
        :xf=/usr/lbin/xf:\
        :sh:

TIA
