Hello Managers,
I'm now in vacationand got some mails from my users about some problems
with our servers. My only possible connection is through a modem but I'm
able to connect to these servers which have been already rebooted.
The problem is the following one :
As the university is closed the users are able to connect through modems to
read and write mails from their PC.
It's still possible to read the mails but when they try to send e-mails
through Netscape, Outlook or Eudora, the result is always the same : the
mail seems to start (Netscape status at the bottom is Mail : message sent ;
waiting for answer), but after a some time there is an error message about
the fact that the message was not sent for some network problem.
At the same time it's impossible to connect to any Web site even our own
Web site www.supelec.fr which is a different Tru64 Unix computer from
the mail server.
As it's still possible when connecting through telnet to these servers to
send e-mails with mailx, I'm quite puzzled by this behaviour and think
about some DNS problem. named is running fine, nslookup is able to find
hosts inside and outside.
Some ideas about this loss of mail and web connections ?
Regards
Daniel Clar
