Apologies for the delay in summarising.
 
The answer is a definite yes !!
 
It would appear that there are some limitations in V5.0A and below i.e. it
is necessary to use /etc/inet.local to start the netrain interface.
With V5.1 the netrain interface can be defined in /etc/rc.config
